Follow Etsy Recyclers On Twitter use #Wastenot So We Can Find You!

CALLING ALL TWEETERS!
Please "Follow Us" on Twitter, our Twitter Team Name is EtsyRecyclersGT .  We use the tag  #wastenot in some of our posts --if you list any items from your shop we encourage you to use that tag as well. That way Heather and I (slowly learning the tweet ropes) can retweet your posts when we see the tag.

What are we tweeting?  Blog articles, Treasuries that may feature your items, some products from some of our team member's shops, retweets of the #wastenot tag, articles that may be helpful, and Etsy-related things you may like!

Why ?  Etsy makes it easier than ever to tweet items from your shops now, it's free and fun, so why not do it? There is a share button on the side of every treasury, and every single item in your store. We'd be crazy not to gain exposure for our team.

Special thanks to Heather for kicking my butt in gear on this.  Perhaps an old blog dog can learn new tricks...

Official Etsy Recyclers Guild Widget from Widgetbox

Not sure if I ever told you this, but I did create a widget some time ago at Widgetbox that allows you to embed (in any size, or color you choose) a small window showcasing the Etsy Recyclers Guild posts. Share the team posts on your blog with this cute and colorful widget! Here's an example of what it looks like :

When you visit Widgetbox you can get this for your blog or website for free. All you need to do is select what color and style you want then "Get embed code."

The code is a "script code" so if you are using Blogger, you'd install as an HTML/JAVA SCRIPT Gadget.

Selling Tip:  You can even make one for your shop, just like the "Pocketshop" widget.

What are you waiting for? Get yours free today!

The Etsy Treasury , Tips for Making it To the Front Page...Selling, Exposure for Shops

From our very own  Leuckit, Fill me with love.....
We've been talking a lot about the *free* Etsy Treasury tool lately.  Our team requires one per month, and I know plenty of you do them more than that. *BIG THANK YOU*  If we have 200 members, making 200 treasuries a month, featuring 16 items per month, the chances of your shop being in it is pretty great--do the math. *If you have three shops you can simply make your quota of 3 treasuries out of one store if you wish.*
Cornerstop offers these cute I love Etsy Tags!
PROOF IN THE PUDDING:
Here is proof of what a Treasury can do for a team.  This one, posted by the Vesties, hit THE FRONT PAGE of Etsy and almost all the items have sold.  That is amazing. That's what WE NEED.  The Vesties have found a way to make it to the front page several times recently.

They are reading the Storque, and articles such as THIS ONE FROM MERCHANDISING DESK talk about what Etsy is looking for for the given month.

If you make it to the front page, your item will get lots of close-up views. This bow by JenLucasDesigns.

Once a treasury I was in hit the front page, and that day I had over 700 views to my shop and sold a crapload of items later that week. Some of those customers still shop with me now.  I find that even if people don't buy right away, they may add you as a favorite shop and come back again and again. You can find out if your item ever made it to the front page  by using this cute Craft Cult tool here. It's all about the FRONT PAGE!

To get our team to the front page here's what we need:
a) Good pictures only!
b) A Title or Target from this STORQUE ARTICLE,
c) Lack of yourself or any of your shops in the article.
d) Helpful Hints by Heather HERE
e) Use this Whale Shark Tool to put it in your website or blog.

Even if we don't make it to the front page, a treasury is a FREE TOOL FOR:

a) Bringing exposure to the items featured.
b) Allowing you to show off your curating skills to Facebook, Twitter, and share to other places
c) Helping your Team Members get item views, hearts, and perhaps some new lookers!

Hey, stop reading and start treasury making...
Enjoy this one in the meantime by one of our lovely Team Leaders aka Forums Diva:

These new mushroom cute banners available for free at Everything Etsy!
 Selling Tips:

Everything Etsy has just added these adorable little mushroom shop banners, which now puts them at 80-something free banners for your shop!  What an eco friendly way to decorate your shop!

A good shop banner:
  • Helps your shop look professional.
  • Creates a good first impression.
They have some really cute ones, even for the holidays, which makes changing out to a holiday theme really easy, simple, and free.

I personally adore this one:
See them all at "Free Etsy Banners" page.

I'll be adding the Everything Etsy Free Shop Banners link to these to the "Helpful Links" page here on the blog, in case you forget and want to find them later :)

Ira Mency Says This is a Must Read Book for Handmade Artists & Etsians by an Etsian Timothy Adam of Handmadeology

I rushed out to Amazon.com and preordered this book last night:

Content = Priceless.

Tim Adam of TimothyAdamDesigns on Etsy (a metal artist with close to 2000 sales) is sharing his tips, tricks and sage advice for Etsy sellers, packing into this book full of 200 pages with a very low preorder price on Amazon.
Tim's wonderful metal designs include jewelry trees, ie: Japanese Cherry Tree in his Etsy shop.
I am personally endorsing and promoting this book because I believe you have to be successful on Etsy to tell others how to do it.  I have learned SO MUCH from Tim.  Just when I thought his own words would be enough to fill a book, he took it a step further.

He revealed last night on his live blog chat on Handmadeology last night,  this book contains interviews with the 8 top Etsy sellers and 12 top bloggers in the handmade and design scene!  This information I am dying to know!

For those of you who don't know, Handmadeology is a site by Tim, for the handmade community. It's a site where you can learn, connect, and talk about selling handmade things online.  It seems as though I hear about some things FIRST there that I wouldn't find elsewhere.

Tim used social media to grow his site rapidly.  By trial and error, interviewing, and research,  he learned what works and what doesn't to drive customers to your website, or Etsy store. This is why I trust this book will be wonderful.  I honestly can't wait for it to come out, publish date is set for March 2011 but the preorder price is now!

According to the Amazon description below, some of the social networking info is included:
