Item Donation & Social Media Drive : Etsy Recyclers Guild Advertising No More Team Shop

The Etsy Recyclers Guild has always held advertising on Sites and Blogs such as Everything Etsy, Handmadeology, and Craftopolis. Doing this required monies that, in the past we were able to obtain from the the combined effort of Team Shop funds and Etsy Grants.

The Dilemma:
With so many Etsy teams cropping up, grant money is few and far between. The Team Shop was recently closed, due to lack of sales, exposure, and more, so now that we are going to rely on the members for help.

The Solution:
We are selling ads cheap with Project Wonderful, but we need your help with one or more of the following:

Part A :  PRIZE DONATIONS NEEDED
Members and Non Team Members Donate Prizes and Get Exposure Here on the Blog.
The first items needed are for prize donations. In the past we've had great donations from both of my shops, Relove, MattieReidChicago and TexasVintage and hosted some exciting contests.  Now it's your turn. All prizes should have a "street sale value" of $20 or more.

It can be something you made, a small prize pack, something you are re-gifting (new, not used!)  or something vintage, just about anything will do! *You will have to send this item to the prize winner with delivery tracking or confirmation, so be aware some of the winners are sometimes intl. A necklace can ship internationally very inexpensively, wherein a huge ceramic bowl will cost an arm and a leg.*

Contests will increase exposure as the word spreads and are open to non-team members.  If you would like to be a prize donator, this even gives you added exposure to your Etsy shop, as we are a page rank 3 blog and we will mention you are the donator and put in some good words about your shop. By donating, you are agreeing that you must send the prize to the winner, and sometimes these winners may live out of the country, so it's best to keep the item under a few lbs.  If you can do this, please contact me via my Etsy shop.

Part B :  YOUR WORD NEEDED

I'm asking all of you bloggers, website owners, tweeters, or Facebookers to support your team.
It doesn't cost you anything but a few minutes to tweet a recent post you read here on the Recyclers Guild Blog, or put a link to a recent post on your Facebook. If you blog, talk about our team and write about your favorite shop. Put links back to our blog so we can be found. Better yet, talk about a member's shop you love.  Word of mouth is sometimes the best promotion.

Part C:  DONATE PROCEEDS FROM A SALE ITEM
We are going to rely on each shop who wishes to participate, to sell a special item and donate a portion of their profits to the team kitty.  Doing so will make it easier for items to be found.  It will also allow the shop owner to have the shipping costs covered, something the team shop didn't do.  So if you have a glove mold for sale, and it sells for $20, donate a small portion to the team kitty. To do this, you must send a paypal payment, IN THE FORM OF SERVICES ONLY (or it will have fees) To IraMency@verizon.net and put in the subject line TEAM SHOP DONATION. It may take me a week or more to update this information.

You can view funds at any time HERE on our Google Spreadsheet.  We will not be able to advertise until we get to $100.

Project Wonderful : Anything to Raise Team Funds

Perhaps some of you have noticed some of the ads from sponsors on the sidebar that are always changing. Today, there may be no ads, tomorrow some, then poof gone again. The ever changing ad boxes are the works of Project Wonderful.  I am honestly tired of trying to sell direct advertising for our blog, when we have so much else to do and I'm sure you know time is limited!   So, I handed the ads off to Project Wonderful for the time being.

At first they were free, so a lot of people tried them out. I have now put a cost associated with them, some from 3 cents per day to 10 cents per day.

I am not sure if any of you use this service, but I have actually a few ads out there myself though it.  It's cheap advertising, but if you do your homework sometimes you can find a niche site that works for you.  Ultimately if you sell handmade , advertising on a site like Handmadeology for $50 for 3 months will get you a lot of views.  If you don't have $50, you may wish to try a smaller niche site for say, $5 and see what happens.

I want to reiterate that things aren't going to fly out of your shop, (I'm on Design Sponge and I'm not selling out) so.....this is for people who want to put $10 or $20 into an advertising account and test the waters. Find a niche.  For just ten cents a day, $20 may last you some time! What's nice is you have reports --if you research and read them you can find something that works for you.  You can search for blogs  (both business and personal) that fit your keywords.  Some blogs have a lot of page views, others are growing .....A crochet seller may have very good luck advertising on a yarn site and get advertising results for less , than if they were to advertise lost in a sea of ads on a larger much more read big-boy site.  You really have to do your homework and search by keywords. The best part is you can cancel it at any time and you are not committed.
You can really do research for free before committing to Project Wonderful.

It took me awhile to find the right place to advertise my vintage shop via Project Wonderful.  I found some places really cheap just weren't a good fit for my vintage shop.  One vintage site wanted $11.13 a day to advertise, I must say they were a widely read blog but if an ad is going to cost me that much I'll go to Design Sponge!   I found a spot that worked for me, but over time my click though rate cost me about 60 cents a click so I dropped it. Now I'm on a site that costs me about .18 cents when they visit my shop.  What that means is , a vintage reader who loves vintage is costing me less than a quarter to visit my site.  Would YOU pay a quarter to get a new customers in your niche to visit your Etsy shop and look around?  The best part is you can set a spending limit like "Drop me when I used up $5".
You can easily get lost in the WWW full of advertising. This pendant by Girl Geek Boutique!

Project Wonderful is a bid system.  You bid the most you will spend per day on any given ad. I "park" my bid and leave it up. Today, I may be the winner and featured for a few days for .10, but Wednesday comes and someone bids .12 and knocks me out.  They then leave on Saturday advertising elsewhere and I'm back in because no one is bidding against me.  So, it takes me a heck of a long time to blow though $20.

Ironically what you can't see is the fact it targets four country zones. People reading this from Canada may see ABC Calendar's shop wherein someone in the states may be seeing XYZ Supplies.  It is based on target audience.

Project Wonderful makes their money when you deposit funds from your paypal in there, taking small service fees.   A lot of people say to me, "I have not had any luck using Project Wonderful."  I say to them, did you do your homework and really read the reports, and if not, how do you really know?  Someone who clicks though today may come back and buy tomorrow.

Advertising can be confusing.

I'm putting together more compiled results in Advertising in the future, but for now I thought I'd tell you that I'm letting Project Wonderful handle our blog advertising from now on.   We may not get rich quick off selling these ads, but over time we should have some money deposited into the team shop funds.

So please support and visit our sponsors!  They will be constantly changing :)

Everything Etsy, Handmadeology Ad Campaigns and Welcome New Members

Welcome Earthling!
Graphic by GirlGeekBoutique
We wanted to send a special thanks to Kim and Tim at Everything Etsy for working with us again, we will have advertising up with her on the site momentarily!   Make sure to visit Kim's cool site!  We love this lady!
We are Big Kim Layton Fans & her shop Flashy Fish!

We also have advertising currently up on Handmadeology and you know how much we love them :)   Both campaigns will run three months long, and lead right to the team tag.  This way, it makes it fair and unbiased, whomever has listed items last will show first.

Q: How can you maximize your exposure?
A: List or relist an item every so often so you can make sure you are somewhere in the first few pages !

Q: How do I know if I'm getting any hits?
A: Track your analytics via Google, (find out how on our Helpful Links page) and look for referring sites !

Q: What does this do for me?
A: Advertising makes people aware of our team's offerings on Etsy. Our hopes is they find your shop, like it, and visit it often. Just because they don't buy today, doesn't mean they won't buy tomorrow.

Q: How did we pay for this?
A: Our team works hard to raise money via selling advertising on the blog and items donated by lovely team members that are in our Team Shop. All Team Shop funds were applied to these campaigns. Sometimes we get grants from Etsy also. We have pretty much spent all the money in it so we hope that we can keep spreading the love and donating more.  You can view team shop funds at any time on our "Helpful Links" page. Contact Sarah at relove to Donate to the Team Shop!

That said, we have closed up the open enrollment due to a big "influx" of members.  Woot Woot. They made it in!  Let's welcome them now!

Etsy Recyclers Guild Facelift , Team News, & Purple Passion Treasury

Adorable Purple Barbie Dress by Gordon4aday

Hello teamies! Our blog has gotten a new facelift (hey, it's purple) and I'm happy to report a few things :

1) We will be offering both a vintage spotlight and a handmade spotlight going forward, so that we may highlight both kinds of shops!

2) Immense thank you's to Retreaux Girl who will be working hard in the team forums with Lizzie Caye that are housed on Etsy.  They are here and something you should use!  Just stop by to say hi, or ask for help, or discuss anything.  Due to recent announcements on Etsy about their main forums going "bye-byes", OUR team forum will be the main place for us to network and bond.  :) That sounds like fun doesn't it?

3) Our Contest closes Feb 14th, and is a great way for you to exposure your shop along with someone else's--and since we'll be featuring the winner on this very blog with freebies and free advertising worth $200+ how can you beat that?  All you have to do is write one silly little BLOG POST (or article on your site.)  You can't beat that.  Make sure to send this contest to all your firends and family, as they don't have to be Etsians! It's all about the networking!

4) Soon after that look for cool treasury challenges.  Why make treasuries? Because it exposes products to others, and gets your products viewed, tweeted, facebooked and talked about.  For just a few minutes of work, it sure is a lot of exposure! Speaking of treasuries...
