Green Bug Killer Insecticide Natural Epazote

Natural Bug Killer , Prints from FatDragonfly on Etsy
When killing bugs, are you killing the good ones and the bad ones?  Pic: FatDragonfly

Kill Bugs Naturally
In our previous post we talked about green alternatives to household cleaning agents. Right in line with living green and finding eco friendly solutions to chemicals in our lives; today we've decided to talk about bug killer and harmful insecticides.

Spring is here and soon the flies and bugs will be rampid.  There are many problems with store bought insecticides and too many to list--from the albeit known facts they contain harmful poisons to your family, your pets and your body. Have you ever considered that by using them, they are not only killing the bad bugs, but the good ones too?

To maintain a friendly eco system some "good bugs" are needed. Spraying tons of store bought chemicals on your lawn, garden, plants, or in your house is messing with the greater good. Not only are you wiping out the bad insects but possibly harming the good ones.  The good news is now you don't have to be in a catch 22 anymore.

Dinkum Seeds : Natural Bug Killer via Epazote for Bug Killing
The Epazote herb helps kill bad bugs , but you can grow your own, Pic: Fair Dinkum Seeds.

Fair Dinkum Seeds has exposed the secrets of the Dried Epazote Herb.  They say, "It's a dried herb that has a natural chemical component that is toxic.  This toxic chemical kills insects and is much safer than standard insecticides. "

The catch here is that it is not harmful to some bugs if used properly. Thereby, you can leave the bees buzzing while killing off the pests that aren't needed.

Now you may know already that many herbs and plants work naturally to deter pests or insects, and Epazote works as good as Confidor, but if used per Fair Dukum Seed's instructions, it does not harm bees at all!   This is one issue with using other insecticides --- it kills the good bugs and bad.

Natural Bug Killer Recipe by Fair Dinkum Seeds

Grow Your Own vs Buying Epazote Plant Already Grown

What's better than buying a plant and making your own insecticide?  Perhaps starting from scratch. Plant your own seeds, watch them grow and then make into the finished product.

Fair Dunkum says, " I also sell the seeds here and am hoping folks start to dump the conventional poisons and start to use natural alternatives instead. They are just as effective, and there is a subtle explanation about only killing insects in necessary. Most insects are good, so generally it is best to leave them alone, but if you really must, then this is a lesser evil than the rest."

Find out more here: Fair Dinkum Seeds Epazote Page.

Buy Organic Direct Why eCommerce Taking Over The World

Pure life conditioner in Lavendar from BuyOrganicDirect.net
For $9.99 the 14.9 oz lavender conditioner being organic is a great deal. Source: BuyOrganicDirect.net
Are green eCommerce sites going to provide valuable for shoppers who wish to buy green, eco friendly and sustainable products? I believe so, and here's why. I live in a big city -Baltimore. My nearest Whole Foods Market is thirty minutes via traffic galore to get to it and going across town and always busy.  Parking there is tight, I don't think they knew originally just how many people would flock there.  Since the store is always crowded, it's not on my favorite things to do list anymore.

I'm happy that more people are tired of GMO's and want to give back by buying more natural products however most stores won't get on the band wagon.  Finding green and sustainable closer to my home is really hard. If I make a quick run to any grocery story, say the five minute away (Giant) it seems the organic and natural is limited to one aisle and selections are limited.   Although there is a demand for it, most stores will only throw a few things in to appease us greenies.    I have to read every package to be sure what I think I'm buying is what it is.
BuyOrganicDirect.net Passion Flower
I found twenty products on Passion Flower, and this supplement at BuyOrganicDirect is $12.89 versus the $14 I jut paid to get it after running four places in my local area.

Then I have my supplement issue.  CVS, Walgreens, Walmart and Giant still don't carry the supplements I need.  Try finding Passion Flower....   Four places later, I found drops but not the tabs I needed.  Two health food supplement stores and they were out of teh brand I used, leaving me with one choice that had harmful binding additives.
Dogs can benefit from an eco Friendly Organic Collar, at BuyOrganicDirect.net
$6.99 at BuyOrganicDirect.net makes the pet collar the deal of a century

Then I have the dog. The furry children are just as important when I want to find good shampoos safe for them, or sustainable products. Even my vet doesn't carry this kind of thing, and two pet stores later, I pretty much give up. The bottom line,  I spend a lot of time trying to find gluten free, sustainable, or eco friendly items and in the process I'm wasting a lot of gas and time.  The latter, is more valuable. There's never enough time in the day to complete what I'm supposed to be doing, so I think sites that offer a one stop shop are going to win out over shopping in five different places.

Buy Organic Direct .net offers Goat Forumla for Babies
Goat formula for toddlers, organic and sustainable, BuyOrganicDirect.net

You have the kids.  Your cosmetics. Your household products. So that's why I think sites like Buy Organic Direct  are going to be the next big rage.  They have all these things IN ONE PLACE .  I admit I'm getting more cranky as I get older about where and how I spend my time.  I would much rather shop this eCommerce store selling natural products and point, click and get a months' worth of my needs delivered for high quality supplements, cosmentics, bath and body, stuff for the kids, the dog and things for the home in one box.  Cheaper than spending gas to run ten places.

Their  selection is smart and the information is valuable. I can steal ten minutes out of my busy day and do half my shopping online. I'm telling everyone because it does save you in the long run. Saves you gas, time and frustration.

Organic Chocolate Bars Stock up For health at buyorganicdirect.net
Chocolate meal bars, stock up with a case of 12 for $41.88, compare paying $60 if you bought them individually at the health food store...

Just check out the offerings on some popular categories:

Now, some people I know won't buy organic or sustainable due to the overall cost factors. I totally understand this because I was one of those people myself before I realized that there are good deals out there but you have to know where to shop.   Most people will see the one aisle in the Giant and the higher prices turns them off. Even if I try to explain the benefits and ultimately (need less get more) theory, sadly I lose out to the big box stores who have the consumers believing everything you save money on is good for you.  I've got news for them, that ten for ten pasta I stocked up on?  Not the best thing for my diet.  Now I buy one box of gluten free made of rice flour and try to live healthier.

Truly if everyone created enough demand for these items the production prices could go down--and if the big box stores would create pricing for such things, but they won't. The smaller mom and pops can't afford the resale and the larger stores keep these products limited to one aisle.  I for one will be routing for sites like BuyOrganicDirect  who promote healthier, responsible living.

Funding For The Abominable Dock Lamp Upcycled Love

Eco Friendly Lamp
One of many designs in the prototype line Up-cycled Lamp and Charging Dock

Check out this,  The Abominable Dock Lamp.  What is it?  It's the nifty name for a new series of handmade lamps that double as docking stations for your phone. The prototypes have been designed by hand with clever design. Made in California, they are fashioned from reclaimed wood, recycled wine bottles, and salvaged wiring.

New Invention Uses Upcycled Materials
Different designs in the prototype line show how detailed and lovely these items are.

The prototypes are design worthy, ingenious and unique. The wine bottles are the globes, and the lights are LED.  They serve as a charging dock for your phone. Not just your phone, ANY PHONE.  How can this be? They say, "Currently, we have one block that works with every phone and tablet on the market and one block made exclusively for Apple’s 30-pin connector (iPhone 1-4S and iPad 1-2)."   That in itself makes it Tech-Savvy.  If they go into full production with backing they will quite possibly be the only 100% Handmade & Upcycled handmade lamp that also doubles as a charging port.  Their goal?  They said,  "Our goal would be to get rid of excess wiring and charging cords by making a lamp out of 100 percent recycled material that charges any phone or laptop and making the earth a cleaner place. "

skeely designed eco frirendly charging port

I for one over the years have switched phones like I switch my t-shirts and think this is a fabulous idea. They are asking for $45,000 start up costs which includes expansion of equipment (currently they are small scale operational off of two CNC routers.) .  This also allows for a production line, a staff force and ordering additional quantities of parts via suppliers.

Helping them means donations as small as $1.00

They Claim Natural Herbs Metabolize Fat Energy

the claim on skinny wraps do they work
It Works Skinny Wraps and Supplements

I've been hearing more about these skinny wraps and so I had to investigate. What I found out is that all of the products used in the "skinny wrap it works" treatments are made with all natural ingredients.

It's Natural and Green

In case you don't know,   The Skinny Wrap   actually a body wrap made of an all natural botanical based product. It can be held in place in your target area with anything, such as an ace bandage.  The secret seems to be the botanical ingredients that penetrate four layers into your skin burning the fat.

Does it Work

I wanted to see what people are saying about it. One person I talked on Facebook says "It starts working in as little as 45 minutes and the results last."  I talked to one distributor in Virginia who said "This is not a water loss wrap. It's actual fat loss. The natural botanicals penetrate the cells and literally melt or dissolve them."

Their claims state it's safer than surgery and well, that is a fact.  Just the other day I received a Facebook message from an old friend who now owns a salon in Parkville, MD. She asked if I knew anyone in the area selling these wraps, she wanted to get them in her salon. So I started reading about them.

Proof in the Pudding, or Lack thereof

Normally when something sounds too good to be true, it usually is, but in this case based on the fact it's using natural ingredients and botanicals, I think it's worth a second look.

The real proof seems to be in the lack of fat--and photos from it's users.  Look also in the way in which it's growing. If you look closely, the company is quickly growing by it's very own user base who orders the product, tries the product, falls in love with it, then starts selling it to family and friends. I suppose the proof is right there.

Would you sell something to family and friends unless it really worked?   If you have used this product please leave comments.  I'm glad to see this company go green, and use botanicals, herbs, and natural ingredients. although I haven't tried it yet, maybe I should. More information here buyskinnywraps.

Low Cost Solar Panels : Now They Are Affordable

save with solar panels
Now you can really save with sustainable energy
I actually remember when solar panels first came outAs with anything brand new,  you had to spend so much up front money, and wonder if they worked. I remember only the rich and famous could afford them.  As with any new technology, they have been perfected over time, been made thinner, lighter, more efficient and made to last.

Many don't realize this, but it's simply amazing that they have declined in price so much to make it affordable for the homeowner! Did you know, according to this Sustainable Energy Article on low cost solar panels  that they have declined in cost almost 70% in the past two years alone, and making them 80% less costly than four years ago? Over time, they have been created to be more effective, more durable and more affordable and more in demand.

As with anything we've seen (from computers to recycled paper) more demand and more production is lower and more affordable costs. So imagine being able to invest small in solar panels and reduce your utility bills--obtaining that investment back quick and having it pay off.

Government Tax Credits & Energy Rebates

Did you know there are federal tax credits and utility rebates?  Read this article on low cost solar panels which tells you to know . Not only will you be saving on your energy bill but you will be saving by going "greener" and using  Sustainable Energy .

Bamboo Toilet Tissue! 100% Tree Free!

My husband Joe works at a natural health foods store, Akin's Natural Foods Market, and last night he purchased our very first package of bamboo toilet tissue! I couldn't be more thrilled! It is made out of 100% bamboo and thus is 100% TREE FREE! The company that makes this particular bamboo toilet paper is Ultra Green, and I am inspired by the details about the product listed on their packaging:
Beyond Recycled Paper: Before recycled paper became "recycle paper", it originally came from trees. Today, most manufacturers use either a blend of recycled paper with tree pulp or 100% tree pulp to make bath tissue. That's no way to save trees. Ultra Green uses 100% bamboo, a fast growing natural resource. If everyone used this product, we would save millions upon millions of trees.

Baltimore Green Housing Village of Bear Creek

Green Homes Baltimore
Photo: Courtesy The Village of Bear Creek
Baltimore Is Going Greener

Finally, the East Coast is catching up with the West Coast. It appears Mark Building Company wasn't waiting around to bring customers a new green housing option - The Village of Bear Creek.  Built with eco friendly materials and proven to save money over time, these Baltimore County Homes are affordable and stylish.   The location of the homes are in Dundalk, Maryland which is close to Baltimore City, Interstates 695 and 95 and minutes from all Baltimore has to offer.

Baltimore Has Struggled

Up until now, Baltimore has struggled with green home options, partially because the materials were high cost and construction of homes were not as affordable for the homeowner - until now.

Green Homes Baltimore
Their "Live Green Save Green" approach is key.

 Live Green Save Green

In this case, the homebuilder has set pricing and mortgage payments very affordable as to where the new homebuyer may be paying less than renting in or around Baltimore.  The homebuilder is showcasing how these new homes will help save you money.

Residents Want Green

Baltimore has a single stream recycling program for City and County Residents.  There is a focus on being a greener community, and with this new green housing this is exactly what they need.

In Touch With Nature

It's not just the homes or great pricing, but Baltimore's Bear Creek has significance as one of the watershed connectors. Choosing this area for a green home puts the homebuyer in touch with nature and water and lets them live a greener life.

How is your state doing with green housing?
